Fiona Carver

Fiona Carver is a painter based on the Rutland–Leicestershire border. She studied Furniture Design at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating with a BA (Hons), before moving into work as a London-based picture framer and gallery manager. Returning to Rutland in 2014 prompted her return to painting, and she now produces observational oil paintings from life, working both en plein air and in her studio.

Her work focuses primarily on domestic still life subjects, inspired by the forms and colours of everyday objects in her surroundings. She is particularly interested in the relationships between items and how arrangement and composition can draw the viewer into quiet observation. A muted, low-key palette is central to her practice, lending her paintings a calm, intimate atmosphere.

Fiona has exhibited with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, and has been shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. In 2025 and 2024 she received the Daler-Rowney Award at The Artist and Leisure Painter Exhibition, following her British Contemporary Award in 2023. Her work has also featured in printmaking publications and appeared on the cover of Country Living Magazine.
