Meet the Artist!
Hello! I'm Alex a designer, artist and printmaker based in Rutland, UK - Eyvi Studio is my creative home. The name is inspired by the Eyebrook reservoir, a protected nature conservation area and a haven for local flora and fauna. Both the Eyebrook and Rutland Water are particularly loved by native and migrating birds – a convenient stop-off point between the coasts.
Following an Art Foundation and BA in Multimedia Design, I've had a career in graphic design and marketing and in recent years, have found more time to spend on my own artistic path. My work is mainly inspired by the natural world, but increasingly informed by other ideas. I tend to work in collective phases and like to approach subjects with open curiosity, initially studying, sketching and playing with mediums and ideas - eventually refining to several pieces of work. My present approach is driven by simplifying subjects, combining colour, exploring abstraction, layering printed textures and working with positive and negative space. My processes primarily include sketching, collagraph, linocut and monoprint printmaking.
Alongside printmaking, I also create repeat patterns for apparel and homewares, applying them to a range of wallpapers and designing for professional uses. Eyvi’s 'Wild' wallpaper collection was born from an experimental lockdown print project #100BritishWeeds, documented on Instagram. Designs in this collection were created using monoprint processes, using wild foliage - collected caringly and sparingly - from the woods, fields and waters of Rutland.
