Suzanne Townshend
A handweaver creating textiles inspired by the colours and textures of the natural world.

Meet the Artist!
I have been creating textiles on a handloom for two decades, enjoying the challenge of designing and making unique items. Inspiration for each design has its origin in distinctive features of the English countryside. Textures and colours experienced during my time outdoors provide the first step to creating one-off textiles using mainly natural fibres including wool, silk and linen. I dye many of the yarns I use in my workshop with plant-based dyes which helps reduce the environmental impact of my craft.
I am currently working on a new collection which celebrates the textured, rippled, fissured complexity of ancient trees using natural yarns and the historic art of handweaving, regarded as one of humankinds earliest crafts.
