Ruth Wood

Ruth Wood has been based in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, making her popular contemporary jewellery from her studio, at her independent jewellery boutique Ada Gallery for 12 years.

In August 2025 she joined Harborough Artist Cluster wanting to share her artwork for the first time.

“I absolutely love abstract art, and the desire to draw & paint in recent years has grown stronger, that I have had to make more time for it, especially life drawing. I’m a big fan of the portrait artist of the year programme; design & fashion. I love drawing especially the female face & form. Exploring my line drawing & mark making using pencil & pen to pastel & ink, to painting in watercolour & oil. I feel I have found my voice & style in my artwork & finally feel ready to share it. I’m very excited.”

“In my spare time I have always loved to draw, play with materials & take pictures of things that inspire me from nature, architecture or irregular shapes & patterns I see in reflections or even the pavement. I actually nearly trained to be an art & design teacher, alongside being a jeweller, before setting up Ada Gallery.”

“And when building a portfolio for teaching I explored clay sculpture, photography, Lino & wood cut screen printing & life drawing. When I wasn’t making my jewellery, I would teach adults & children how to make silver jewellery, to Indian inspired jewellery & body sculpture made from recycled materials.”

Ruth originally from Oakham in Rutland, studied a foundation year in Art & Design at KIAD in Canterbury, before studying a degree in 'Jewellery Design and Silversmithing’ at the School of Jewellery in Birmingham, graduating in June 2006. Afterwards she was accepted to Bishopsland, a prestigious post graduate year for Jewellery and Silversmithing graduates to begin working for themselves. A fine silver vase she hand raised sold at the ‘Collect’ exhibition at the V&A. Ruth also received awards & bursaries from Bishopsland, British Jewellers Association (BJA) Creative Leicestershire and the Arts Council.

Her jewellery which she has been making for over 20 years is inspired by ancient artefacts and treasures, irregular form and the erosion and texture of materials, such as rock formations within caves. She has a strong client base that includes Frances Quinn to radio DJ & television presenter Jo Whiley.

In her Cave collection she creates timeless contemporary jewellery combining irregular abstract metal forms with unique one-off stone-set pieces that look almost as if they have been pulled from the ground, creating your very own stone set treasure. The collection is made from silver, gold plated silver or solid gold with gemstones and diamonds.
