Meet the Artist!
Angela Hooton
I studied Drawing and Painting at the Glasgow School of Art.
I live in a beautiful village in the middle of the Northamptonshire countryside.
My inspiration comes from the natural world – from direct observation of plants and the landscape. I then work from my imagination, creating illustrative, highly stylised and decorative images in which human figures interact with nature.
In my paintings, I design and simplify the content in order to provide a composition of lines and shapes to create a decorative result.
The watercolour paint is built up using glazes to create smooth gradients and an intensity of hue followed by minute dry brush work for detail.
I admire the detailed draftsmanship of the Northern Renaissance painter, Albrecht Duter, and the graceful figures of Sandro Botticelli in the Italian Renaissance. I am particularly interested in the artists of the Vienna Secession of the early 20th Century and particularly the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh who designed the Glasgow School of Art, my alma mater.
