Lamport Hall Central Exhibition

My two entries for the central exhibition 2024

These are both Wool paintings.
The pictures are created by layering small amounts of wool fibres to blend together. Pretty much like paint other than the individual colours/fibres remain their own colour. I then add soap and water and very gently agitate the fibres together to encourage them to matt together. Pretty much like dreadlocks matt. The crispness of the image softesn and move in order for the process to work, in order for the fibres to hold together and not just become fluffs of wool again once dry. Hours are spent creating the image and the felting process takes about 30 minutes! it is felted to what is called a pre felt stage. I prefer not to fully felt as I feel I loose a lot of the image. It goes fuzzy. Quite an anxious 30 minutes. Hoping the image doesn't move too much and lose what I have spent hours creating.
I have tried to show the versatility of style and wool. One vibrant and and one more monotone.
I hope you enjoy taking a closer look at these at the exhibition x
