Sarah Hutt - Abstract landscapes

Different places speak to Sarah in different ways and she enjoys abstracting the joy and energy of a place or event to evoke emotions and feelings

Abstracting landscapes can be challenging and very rewarding at the same time. I start by sketching a landscape over a variety of days and hopefully weather fronts. I identify the key shapes and textures found in my sketches. Once in the studio, I build up layers using my initial sketches as collages and by painting into them or over them. I rotate my work as the layers build trying not to consider composition or direction. Slowly the painting will start to reveal itself. Once pleased I will reduce the colour pallet and build up the detail to anchor its composition.
