Richard Dawson

My work is influenced by many things, abstract art, architecture, ceramics, installation art and sculpture. I am fascinated by the beauty in colour, shape, form and the minute detail of the natural and man-made landscape. I have been taking photographs for over 35 years. This is the starting point for my work. I use different techniques to abstract, highlight and accentuate my images to lift them from the everyday to something more evocative.

I am inspired by Mark Rothko, Andy Goldsworthy, Howard Hodgkin, Anish Kapoor, Richard Long, Antony Gormley, Barabra Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, Cildo Meireles, Richard Avedon, Fay Godwin, Walker Evans, Sally Matthews amongst many others.
