I use multiple exposure and camera movement techniques, combined with blending modes, to create my images. In some of my work I combine elements present at that location at that time on that day to create a ‘sense of place’. I also use editing software to move further from the original image, using its shapes and colours to create pure abstractions, which the viewer can explore and interpret.
My inspiration comes from the world around me, natural and man-made. My images interpret light and colours, shapes and patterns in landscapes, in the broadest sense. They convey my individual perspective on places, be they grand views or intimate details, iconic subjects or mundane objects.
Impressionist photography appeals to me because it provides the opportunity to be creative. I am able to present a different take on the world around me, producing unique images that sometimes challenge you the viewer, inviting you to pause and explore – but perhaps with a reward when you recognize a pattern or place, a feeling or emotion. The results I hope are striking, intriguing and sometimes enigmatic, like a half-recalled memory tantalizingly just out of reach.
