Firedglass high fire enamel artwork

This is the work of Jill Tisbury, glass Artist at Firedglass

In almost all of the pieces shown in this gallery the main subject is painted with several layers of enamel. This is extremely finely ground glass mixed with a medium to form a paint. It can take up to seven layers of this 'paint' to create the depth shown here. Glass powders, crushed glass and hand pulled strings of glass are then used to create the background around the subject. The whole composition is then fired in a kiln at 760 degrees centigrade to fused the various elements together. A second fusing at a slightly lower temperature allows the piece to be mould into the desired shape.
