Selection of watercolour and acrylic-based mixed media paintings

A landscape painting is not just a picture it is a personal expression and each one is a challenge, often bringing a rewarding result. It begins with being in a landscape, sketching and finding clues to develop a unique way to distill the nature of the place. It's an intuitive process of discovery influenced by personal knowledge and experience, taking risks with techniques and materials, and not knowing what the end is until it suddenly comes.

I am a self-taught award-winning landscape artist based in Northamptonshire using watercolours and acrylic-based mixed media. I studied Geography and Geology at Hull University, then Landscape Architecture at Manchester University. I started working in Lancashire, moved to Milton Keynes New Town and there met a colleague with whom I formed a landscape and golf course design consultancy.

I was elected as a full Member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) in 2011. This is one of the oldest art societies in the UK established in 1814. My paintings have been chosen several times for the national exhibition of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours at the Mall Galleries and in 2015 I appeared on Sky TV's Landscape Artist of the Year programme painting at Trelissick in Cornwall.
