When I stand in front of a painting I love in a gallery, I feel a connection to all the other people that love that painting. I feel like we’re all the reason it’s there. I love bringing colours together as a way of evoking this experience.
Painting is not a solitary pursuit for me. I am influenced by the collaborative process of people like the Delauneys and Krasner and Pollock. I paint alongside my partner and we inform each other’s work. How a painting might be received by other people is a key aspect of what I do, and it can take me a while to get to a point where I’m happy to share a painting. Once I am there, it is a great place to be.
