My first love is and always will be painting in watercolours but also have a passion for Wildlife and Landscape photography. To me the two are intrinsically linked in creative expression. An understanding of light, composition, perspective and texture are equally important in creating images that excite and form lasting memories of a particular time and place. Sunlight hitting the landscape creating long shadows and bands of colour inspires me as does the interaction of transparent watercolour paint with water and textured paper to form fluid shapes and granulation that create atmosphere to paintings. Soft summer skies or dramatic storms can be an amazing backdrop for seascapes or landscape paintings.
Stone Carving is my latest endeavour. Totally different in nature to painting and photography it is a slow process that takes time to develop the skills needed to carve and to learn about the nature each type of stone used in the work. Creating shapes from stone can take weeks work to finish, sometimes planned to a design but often the ideas and shape can happen during the process, losing yourself in the process of carving is a joyous thing. I began my journey with the help and support of the other stone carvers centred in the Isle of Purbeck, Dorset.
