Lizzi is a self-taught artist working mainly with polymer clay since 2011. She has written tutorials for Making Jewellery magazine and gives guest talks and workshops.
Polymer clay was invented over 50 years ago and can be used to paint, sculpt, create veneers and inlays, jewellery, miniatures, cake toppers and functional art. It is non-toxic, does not dry out and is cured in a conventional oven, making it accessible to all artists.
Lizzi is now an active member of the British Polymer Clay Guild, which was founded in 1997 to raise the profile of this versatile clay, and also the International Polymer Clay Association, which brings together artists worldwide to share knowledge and collaborate.
Her most popular creations are Peace Pebbles - smooth colourful stones, created using a circular motion technique which creates the swirly pattern in the clay - they are not painted. The pebbles are used as anchors for mindfulness mediation and as stress-relievers for those going through challenging situations, from giving birth to exams and health treatments. Lizzi eldest child gave the pebbles their name when they kept one in their pocket when suffering with severe anxiety at school. She has made batches for special schools, personalised wedding favours and as stocking fillers too. They can be personalised before curing, then after curing, they are sanded and polished and feel delightfully smooth in the palm of your hand. She has literally made 1000s of these pebbles and sent them all over the world and she is still not bored of making them.
Lizzi runs beginners workshops at the Renew169 Wellbeing Cafe in Towcester and can offer more advanced classes at the Vitreus Art Gallery at The Bell Plantation, Towcester for people to learn more about the best ways to create with polymer clay and create jewellery and functional pieces.
When time allows from her day job and commissions, Lizzi continues to learn more about polymer clay and creates diverse new pieces using techniques learned from experienced artists. There is always something new to discover.
