My name is Martine Soldano, a Northampton based paper collage artist also known as Snips and Pieces. I make beautiful paper collages; one off limited editions and bespoke pieces made to order from my Northampton studio. I also host paper collage workshops for families and adults, for art lovers and for people wanting to learn new art skills.
From floral and botanical themed, to special places and people, I often create the hand coloured paper featured in my work using watercolour, acrylics and ready mixed paints.
I enjoy snipping shapes, objects and colours from paper, layering to create a sense of depth and texture to both simple and complex pieces.
Inspiration comes from what is around me, mainly in nature, and I love flowers and foliage! I also love the lines in architecture and definitely love a sharp wonky line when snipping! Colours and shapes mixed with exposed brushstrokes on paper can often be very beautiful, so I tend to play around with this when creating my papers.
My work can be seen in many different sizes; from mega snips that require a lot of components, to mini snips which take time and care to cut out only using scissors. Nothing is stuck down until I am very sure of its placing. It can sometimes be instant or a longer process of layering and arranging.
I find peace when creating and love to share my latest work with my followers and students.
