Chris is an established artist and well known for his dynamic interpretation of land, sea and architecture. His paintings are rich in colour, texture and are impressionistic in style. Inspired by nature, he enjoys working from direct contact with his subject matter, revelling in the contrasting topography and dramatic effects of light and shape of Wales and Norfolk. These locations have formed an inspirational backdrop to his work.
Being a keen draughtsman, studying, drawing and physically absorbing his chosen environments are key components to Chris’s finished works. His painting style is brisk, atmospheric and seemingly carefree, though his consideration for composition and colour is evident. Painting mainly in his preferred and versatile medium of acrylic, his mark making is bold and layered, which makes for his distinctive and original art. Whether he works on canvas, paper or wood panel, he uses a brush and palette knife or just about anything to make the right impression as he tussles with the surface to achieve the desired effect!
Chris has been a full time creative since leaving college in 1987. He studied technical illustration and found his niche as a freelance architectural illustrator, visualiser and concept artist for 20 plus years. As a professional painter, his work has been exhibited nationwide and has been supported by an excellent network of galleries. The past years have been extremely busy with numerous commissions and successful exhibitions in Wales, Norfolk, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire.
