Trained at Lincoln College of Art and Londons Central School of Art, my background is in jewellery, my award-winning designs attracting a loyal following over the years, before widening my horizons to encompass painting and sculpture. Working in my Soho workshop in the heart of Londons West End, before relocating to the Cambs/Northants border.
I find it refreshing and exciting to work on a larger scale, and feel that each discipline has a reciprocal impact on the others.
Often evolving from the landscape, whether rural or industrial, my paintings convey my response to a particular place, situation, or feeling, however sometimes they develop from a more abstract idea, and the sheer excitement afforded by colour.
I am interested in structure within the landscape; roads, hedge lines, telegraph poles/wires, yellow lines, peeling posters. Docks are exciting places for me, the massive bulk of ships and wharves, the shapes of the structures and machinery, and the flashes of bright incongruous colour. My paintings are built up of layers of paint and collage, punctuated by drawn and scraped lines. This process of layering allows me to explore texture as well as colour.
